General information

I. SHORT HYSTORY

It was constituted by order. No.1 of 1.X.1930 of the first Director (Av.Bihman) of the Institute of Public Education as a basic structural unit of the institution.

Between 1932-1940 the faculty trained teachers for the specialties: “Moldovan Language and Literature”, “Moldovan Language and Literature and History”, “Moldovan Language in the Russian School”, “Russian Language and Literature in the National School”. The first dean of the Faculty of Philology was Polina Chicot, a graduate of Poltava Pedagogical Institute. Along with her, remarkable teachers have activated: G. Cociur, A. Craciun – a graduate of Tiraspol Pedagogical Institute „S. Kosior”, who ruled the faculty during the war (1941-1945).

Since the 1950s, an important role in the process of training teachers for education in Moldova was played by the educators V. Titov, M. Vaisman, E. Chireeva, Z. Suhanova, A. Miheev. For the specialists’ training, the faculty had to face great difficulties: editing textbooks,  training teachers.

Between the years 60-80 the faculty has a rapid growth: the number of highly qualified teachers is increased, there are published textbooks, monographs, didactic instructions.

In 1984 the Department of Romanian Philology was reopened within the Faculty of Pedagogy, and in 1994 –it was transferred to the structure of the Faculty of Philology. An important contribution to the development of the image of the faculty was brought by deans/associate professors from different periods – P. Chicot, V. Shaalin, V. Zapadaev, A. Drujinin, V. Cistov, G. Bogatîriova, P. Tolocenco, Ev. Florea, M. Laur, L. Soloviova, O. Gherlovan.

Among the first prominent personalities who started their scientific activity within the faculty were the well-known scholars: I. Grosul (later the first president of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova), A. Lazarev (later the rector of the State University of Chisinau), N. Chiricenco (later the rector of “Ion Creangă” Pedagogical Institute in Chisinau), writers: N. Marcov, L. Cornianu, M. Oprea, S. Mospan, I. Ciobanu, N. Cabac, P. Cruceniuc, P. Darienco.

Between 1994-2009 a great help in the training process of the specialists was granted to us by the scholars from “Ion Creangă” Pedagogical  State University, Moldova State University, Academy of Sciences of Moldova: qualified doctors, university professors A. Burlacu, L. Donetsky, T. Melnic, N. Băieşu and PhDs , associate professors V. Zagaevschi, L. Luţevici

Currently, the training of the specialists is carried out by the two departments of the faculty: the Department of Romanian Language and Literature and the Department of Foreign Languages ​​and Literatures, as well as the university departments: the Department of Pedagogy and General Psychology, the Department of Social Sciences. The departments bring together specialists of highly qualified philologists, known in the academic environment. The masterful principle of the Faculty’s teaching staff consists in the training of the highly qualified specialists for the national education of the Republic of Moldova.

II. MATERIAL BASE

The faculty is equipped with 9 classrooms, 3 computer rooms which are used for carrying out the training process of the faculty students and the process of the research activity. The classrooms equipment meets the standards required for the educational process. The students of the faculty benefit from the University Library, the Digital Library; Gym with all adjacent spaces, canteen, building hall. The educational and research spaces are accessible to all the faculty students and teachers.

III. FACILITIES AND COMPETENCES

The study programs proposed by the Faculty of Philology develop the general and specific competences of the field of Education Sciences and the philological field, they propose a professional training plan for the future teachers of Romanian/Russian and English/French Languages and Literatures.

The study programs are open to new trends in the field of vocational training by including optional courses and seminars that reflect the contemporary problems of the pedagogical, philological, communication sciences and so on.

The variety and scientific competence of the courses proposed in the study programs constitute a prerequisite for further training and within the programs of higher master’s studies (Cycle II), thus ensuring the professional insertion of graduates in the labor market according to the complex requirements of the current public space.

The graduates of the study programs (Cycle I) have the right to be employed in pre-university education institutions as a Romanian/Russian and English/French language and literature teacher, manager in the educational system.

The graduates of the study programs (Cycle II) have the right of employment in the pre-university education institutions (high school, college) as a Romanian/Russian and English / French language and literature teacher, a manager in the educational system, as well as a university assistant. The graduates have the right to continue their studies at Cycle III (PhD) in the field of Education Sciences and Philology.

The qualification obtained allows the graduates to work in the following fields: research in philology, counseling in education, in public institutions and advertising, the media (literary reviewer, editor, publicist, reporter, etc.), translation, etc.

In 2017-2018 the teaching staff from the Faculty benefited from Mobility Programs: Gherlovan Olga (“A.S. Pushkin” Russian Language Institute, Moscow, Russia; Pedagogical University of Kraków, Poland), Ionaş Anatolie (University of Craiova, Romania), Ciorba-Lașcu Tatiana (University of Pitești, Romania), Procopii Liuba (Râmnicu Vâlcea, Romania), Ciorba-Lașcu Tatiana, Taburceanu Polina and Constantinov Lilia (Pedagogical University of Kraków, Poland), which resulted in the initiation of professional collaboration relationships.

V. SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH

The planning and support of the scientific research activity of the teaching staff is carried out within the departments. The topic of scientific research is determined by the general field of studies and the content of the study programs. The scientific results of the professors are reflected in different types of publications. In the last 5 years the professors from the faculty have published: monographs; didactical supports; articles in specialized journals (category C); articles in other international journals; articles in other journals; articles in  collections.

The scientific teaching staff from the Faculty of Philology participate in national and international projects: Gherlovan O. (MECC project Standards for minimum equipment of study classrooms in school disciplines in general education institutions); Rusu E. (National project “Facilitating technologies of adaptability of children to the school environment”), Gherlovan O. (TEMPUS QAEM project Development of quality assurance in higher education in Moldova (2012 – so far); Stah D. (2015 – 2016 – executor of the Erasmus project + Creation of the Moldovan E-network to promote e-training in lifelong learning (TEACH ME); 2009 – present – NET4SOCIETY – Trans-national cooperation between National Contact Points for Socio-economic Sciences and the Humanities, www.net4society .eu; 2012 – 2014 – PeopleNetwork +, The Marie Curie Actions: career opportunities for researchers, www.peoplenetworkplus.eu; 2011 – 2013 – Erasmus Mundus Action 2 Lot, 8204521-1-2011-1-LT-ERA MUNDUSEMA21; October 2012 – May 2013 – Social inclusion of people with special educational requirements through the development of the partnership: family – multidisciplinary team – community, Grant: no. 99/11 / M funded by Royal Embassy of Norway, APDI-Humanitas, Chisinau, Moldova). VI. FORMS OF STUDY

I. Higher Bachelor’s/License Degree studies (Cycle I)

Specialties – full-time education section:

  • Romanian and English language and literature – 240 credits;
  • Romanian language and literature and French language – 240 credits;
  • Russian and English language and literature – 240 credits;

Specialties – part-time education section:

  • Romanian language and literature – 180 credits;
  • Russian language and literature – 180 credits.

Length of study: full-time education – 4 years, part-time education – 4 years.

Admission is based on the baccalaureate diploma and the diploma of the college graduates. The graduates of Cycle I are awarded the title of Bachelor in Sciences of Education.

The specialist is trained for the pedagogical and scientific research activity. The qualification obtained allows the graduate to work in educational institutions of different types – schools of general culture, high schools, colleges, institutions of higher education, in the media system and other branches of the national economy. The graduate can act as: Romanian language and literature teacher (Russian, English, French), teacher of universal literature, inspector in the district and municipal directions of education, scientific researcher, translator, editor at the publishing house.

II. Master’s degree studies (Cycle II)

  • Contemporary Romanian Language and Literature and Educational Technologies – 120 credits;
  • Contemporary Russian Language and Literature and Educational Technologies – 120 credits.

Length of study:  full-time education – 2 years.

Admission is done on the basis of the diploma of license degree. The graduates of Cycle II are awarded the title of Professional Master in Educational Sciences.

The specialist is trained for the activity in: secondary, high school, professional secondary education; local and national educational administration; educational management; educational counseling; educational services; leadership programs; intercultural education; educational evaluation.
